Carly Kuhn (formerly known as The Cartorialist) is an illustrator and writer whose work is defined by a love of the line, where wit, whimsy, and sophistication collide. Born and raised in New York City, she has collaborated with Bergdorf Goodman, Rosewood Hotels, Tory Burch, Sotheby’s, Thom Browne, and the American Ballet Theatre. Her forthcoming illustrated book, “A Character Study” (set to publish in 2026), explores human behavior and fleeting moments with both humor and elegance, shaped by her lifelong practice of observing the world as a New Yorker at heart. Alongside her book, she has launched a hand-drawn wallpaper line – delicate designs that feel as if she came in and sketched directly on the wall, at once timeless and nostalgic yet fresh and modern. A complement to her wallcoverings, Carly and Everhem introduced a capsule window treatment collection in Spring 2025, showcasing four of her original designs. Her work spans paper goods, illustration, and design, often weaving in hand-lettering and limericks to create pieces that are as clever as they are refined. In every medium, she brings a playful eye and a thoughtful hand to transform the everyday into something artful.
